The White Cliffs of Dover

Ah, the white cliffs of Dover.

These are an English must see. They are famous for so many reasons, some being their presence in beautiful poetry and others their role in defending the skies of the English Channel during WW2. Located 22 miles north of France and surrounded by rocky beaches and the English Channel, the Dover coast was the perfect location for a warm weekend away from our busy city life.

We decided to take a coach to Dover Friday night. I had the job of packing and getting the kids and ALL of our stuff to the Victoria station where I was to meet Leon after work. This was quite the task and it is safe to assume we made it 10 min before our bus was to leave. Quite the stressful start to what was suppose to be a relaxing weekend. The bus ride went well and the kids were really great. And we were pleasantly surprised with our little Holiday Park bungalow. It was fully stocked with sheets and toilet paper (Leon warned me on the bus that he forgot to tell me that our accommodations might not have either)!! The only things we had to do without were towels. But that was OK because it was a nice warm weekend and we just let the sun dry us off.

We woke up Saturday morning to a beautiful sunny day. I love waking up to the sun on my face and little baby Jet kisses. I knew it would be a good day. We went to breakfast and then started on our walk down to St Margaret's Bay. The English coast is breathtaking and walking hand in hand with my loves made it even more so.

Those would be the famous white cliffs

We spent a few hours basking in the sun on this lovely beach, eating homemade ice cream, and enjoying the company of our little family. Ellie loves just to be in her bathing suit. She is so her mother's daughter. She also enjoyed throwing pebbles into the sea. Jet enjoyed putting them in his mouth. Can anyone say chocking hazard? It was kinda awful to have to stay on him about it constantly. Finally we decided we had enough of Jet and his suicidal rock eating, so we walked around the bay and ended up at a WW2 museum.

This is Ellie dressed up like she is being shipped off to Wales like so many of the children of Dover in the 1940s. I'm kind of obsessed with WW2 so I loved learning about Dover's role in the war. I would go into it but we don't need a novel here, right?

Leon drying off after his shower haha. Ellie grabbed her shades and her bean and told me she wanted to be like Daddy. Those two are peas in a pod I tell ya.
Sunday we hiked down the white cliffs and made our way back to town. We didn't realize how far of a walk it would be, so we literally hiked with our ergo and stroller for 3-4 miles, down steep hills, in the blazing sun haha. I love my stroller, it was such a champ. It was a long walk, but I enjoy long walks with Leon because it always leads to interesting conversation. I married a funny and really smart man. We finally made it to the bottom and to Ellie's horror bypassed the castle (bad move). We spent some time on the beach and Jet may or may not have fallen in love with Magnum bars. Elle begged for a sandy beach, but there were none to be found, so she decided she was OK with the rocks as long as she got to put her toes in the water one last time. We even found rocks to bring home to Mimi. Elle is very excited to share them.

We thought after our ridiculously crazy hike we deserved some ice cream

He thoroughly enjoyed his chocolate

It is safe to say it was a nice relaxing weekend. July is turning out to be the best. The pity party has turned into a big fat party and I can't believe I only have four more weeks. We love and miss you all.
